Normally Memorial Day is a holiday focused on remembering those who died in war while serving with one of the branches of the United States military. However, in light of all that’s going on in our country and around the world right now, staff at The Waters of Oak Creek decided to turn the holiday into more of a celebration.

A parking lot parade was held outside The Waters of Oak Creek on South Market Street the Friday afternoon before Memorial Day 2020. As cars decorated in red, white and blue made their way through the parking lot, residents watched and waved. Some watched from the sidewalk in front of the building. Others from their windows and balconies. Residents have been sheltering in place since March when the COVID-19 pandemic began, so the opportunity to celebrate a little was much appreciated. The 14 veterans who live in the community were also honored as part of the event; and residents had the added excitedment of coverage of the event by three Milwaukee news outlets: CBS-58 TV, Spectrum 1 News and WTMJ-AM Radio.
