Elliott Foster, author of the new novel, Whispering Pines: Tales From a North woods Cabin, had two signing events in August.
He appeared at the Rural America Center in Plainview, Minn., on Aug. 19 and the Barnes & Noble in Roseville, Minn., on Aug. 15. In addition, articles about the book appeared in the Aug. 12 issue of the Planview News and Aug. 17 issue of the Rochester Post Bulletin.
Whispering Pines is the story of The Travis Family’s 50 year love affair with their family cabin. The tale begins in September 1993 as four generations of the Travis family have come together to celebrate the 80th birthday of their matriarch, Isabelle. One after another, family members gathered around the dinner table reflect on precious memories of the experiences they have all had at the family cabin in the Chippewa National Forest.
The book received a very favorable review from the Pioneer Press earlier this summer. Mary Ann Grossman said, "Anyone who's loved a cabin is familiar with this story. There's fishing, long summer nights, hard maintenance work. And there's the story of family -- the older generation passes, younger ones take over. The pace of this 267-page story is gentle and slow, with lots of detail about everyday activities….. readers will immerse themselves in this piece of life in Minnesota. "
