Welcome to our FAQ page, where you will find answers to questions you may have about our services, our work process, and how we can help your brand grow. Looking for insight into what a publicist does, why publicity is worth pursuing, and the industries we specialize in helping to promote? You'll find it here.
A publicist is a professional who helps their clients secure earned media coverage in newspapers and magazines, on television and radio programs, and in blogs and podcasts.
Publicists often have media experience and are able to use their knowledge of how newsrooms work to first develop a publicity strategy, then identify newsworthy stories about your product or business, write press releases, press kits and feature articles, pitch journalists and handle arranging interviews.
Publicity is earned media, which means a journalist choose to publish or air a story as part of their job. Earned media can help you gain credibility because it is independently reported and the subject of the interview did not control the message.
Advertising, on the other hand, is a paid placement in which the person or business purchasing the ad does control the content and pays for the placement.
When people ask me if I think their story is newsworthy, my answer is always yes! Everyone has a story worth telling. The question they should be asking is if I think I can get attention for them from the news media.
Sometimes the answer is no, but if it is I provide a detailed explanation of why, and what can be changed about the messaging to turn it into a yes. Before switching to a career in marketing and PR, I spent 15 years working as a television newscast producer. I also have print journalism experience.
It is important to remember that journalists are in the business of sharing stories about timely trends, human-interest and community impact. If you are just trying to promote a sale, don't call the newsroom! I recommend you purchase an advertisement.
I’m happy to share that since our founding in 2009, RMA Publicity has successfully secured at least one story for 98 percent of the clients that have hired us. For those we are unsuccessful securing media for, we will purchase a PR Web story that will end up in the sponsored content sections of news websites.

No, and anyone who tells you they can aren’t being honest with you. I cannot guarantee earned media coverage because it is up to the journalists to make independent editorial decisions. What I can guarantee is professional story development, strategic pitching, persistent follow-up, and recommendations based on decades of newsroom and publicity experience.
Not always, but it is often a good idea to have some kind of written material available when pitching a journalist. Why? Because you want to be able to control the message they are receiving.
If you just pitch them on the phone or via email and send them to your website to get more information and background for a story, the journalist will review the content through their own lens of experience. There is no guarantee they will pick up on the angle you want them to pick up on.
As part of our service, RMA Publicity writes a professional feature article or press kit for each of the campaigns we do.
Some stories receive coverage the day they are initially pitched. Others may take several weeks or months to convert. Timing depends on a lot of factors, including but not limited to competing stories, breaking news, seasonal interest and the strength of the story itself.
