Retired Minnesota political science professor J.J. Harrigan is spending his retirement writing about the very topics he studied when he is working, and the first in a series of novels about hot button issues is now available. Harrigan will be promoting Goodbye Cuba, the first book in what is being hailed as "The Goodbye Series" in November and December. 
  Goodbye Cuba is the story of Charlie Parnell, a U.S. Army Lieutenant whom CIA rogues blackmail into a plot to assassinate Fidel Castro. They infiltrate him into Cuba under the cover of pretending to be a reporter for the Irish Times. Castro’s security chief mistrusts any Western reporter and assigns the tantalizing Isabel Fernandez to be his watcher.
  However, when they fall for each other, and Isabel discovers who he really is, she convinces Charlie to take her and her 4-year-old daughter with him when the CIA exfiltrates him from Cuba. When Castro’s security chief discovers their plan, however, he sets up a dragnet to find them.
   On Friday and Saturday, December 1 and 2, Harrigan will have a table at The Old Fashioned Christmas Market at the Bird Island Cultural Centre,  located at 640 Dogwood Avenue, Bird Island, MN 55310. 
   And he will be interviewed on "National Security This Week" with Commander Jon Olson, U.S. Navy (Ret.), on December 6, beginning at 9 a.m. The show airs on Northfield, Minnesota's KYMN-AM.
   In November, he participated in the GSR Fine Art Festival at the Mankato Civic Center in Mankato, Minnesota.
