As the temperatures begin to turn warmer, people are again returning to the water, and JoAnn Deveny, author, “When Bluebirds Fly: Losing a Child, Living with Hope,” wants to remind people to make sure their kids know how to swim. Her son, Billy, drowned in Lake Minnetonka in 1991. When Bluebirds Fly starts with a riveting account of the Devenys’ journey to their son’s bedside, and then leads readers through the adversities that often come with a tragedy.


JoAnn Deveny grew up on the Iron Range of northern Minnesota and graduated with a Liberal Arts degree from the University of Minnesota. JoAnn has appeared on Fox National News, the WCCO Morning Show, the KQRS Morning Show, and other media events commenting on her humorous air travel book, “99 Ways to Make a Flight Attendant Fly—Off the Handle!” JoAnn now resides in Mound, Minnesota. She continues her flying career and is an accompanist at her local churches.
