(New Baltimore, MI) - When is the last time you spent a lazy day on the couch reading a book? If you can’t remember, it has been way too long.

In order to promote a culture of reading in America, Penguin Random House, GoodReads and the National Book Foundation have teamed up to declare Sat., Jan. 24, 2015, National Readathon Day. In celebration, there are reading events planned throughout the country.

One of those events, a reading party where cookies and refreshments will be served, will be held at Ecco Family Bookstore, located at 51117 Washington Street in New Baltimore, Mich. The event takes place between Noon - 4 p.m., and will feature a reading by award-winning local author Jacquelyn Eubanks of Chesterfield, Mich. In addition, all children’s books will be discounted by 25 percent during the event.

Eubanks, who is a senior at Austin Catholic High School in Ray, Mich., will talk about her love of reading, read from her latest novel, The Last Time, which just won a Readers Choice Bronze Award, and answer questions about her writing career. Eubanks had her first book published when she was 14. She is now 17-years-old.

After the discussion, Eubanks will sign copies of both the Last Time and her first book, The Last Summer. Both novels feature a talented young athlete named Charley Mason who dreams of one day playing for the New York Yankees.

“We are very excited to host a reading party for the community and look forward to a great turnout,” said Marianne Erdman. She is one of the many volunteers who run the Christian bookstore, which is a nonprofit business that puts proceeds towards helping local needy families.
