Lee Jacobus, author, Hawaiian Tales: The Girl with Heavenly Eyes, participated in a special event titled, "Spring Evening with Local Authors" at the Barnes & Noble store in Waterbury, Conn., the evening of April 16.
Hawaiian Tales: The Girl with Heavenly Eyes is a collection of 14 short stories that look beyond the surface lives of tourists and retirees, natives and transplants, to the joys and mysteries within. Though fictional, each of the stories is based on the people Jacobus met, the places he visited, and the experiences he had both on and off the beaten path. Lee A. Etiquette expert Wynne Dalley, author of Be Cool & Confident: A Guide for Girls and Be Cool & Confident: A Guide for Guys, was interviewed on the Ron Owens Program on KGO Radio 810 in San Francisco, Calif. the morning of April 15 to promote her upcoming events at Barnes & Noble stores in the Bay Area.

A book sharing an artist’s psychological struggles and passion for dance has been named one of the best books produced in the Midwest in 2013. Dances Through Glass: A 25- Year Retrospective of Work By Photographer and Painter Polly Norman (AVANT Circle, 2013, $49.95) is a finalist in six categories of this year’s Midwest Book Awards competition.
Judges in the categories of Arts, Coffee Table Books, Cover, Photography, Interior Layout and Total Book Design were especially impressed by the book, which begins with an essay titled, “Soaring and Crashing.” In it Norman reveals her psychological struggles. She writes, “To deal with the chaos in my life, I escape into the prism of glass, dancing to the visual music in my mind. My photographs express my interior movement from darkness into light and back again.”
Finalist names were released on April 12. Winners will be recognized at the 24th annual Midwest Book Awards Celebration. This year’s gala will be held the evening of Wednesday, May 14 at the Olson Campus Center at Luther Seminary, located at 1490 Fulham Street in St. Paul.
